The full Elephant's Perch experience: arrive in Stanley, acclimatize with a skills day, then climb all 8 pitches of the Mountaineer's Route the next morning with Sawtooth Mountain Guides. Return to Redfish Lake Lodge for a well-earned dinner with a lake view.
Day-by-Day Plan
Arrive Stanley — skills day
Drive to Stanley. Check in at Redfish Lake Lodge or Mountain Village. Meet guides for gear check.
Half-day skills session with Sawtooth Mountain Guides — crack technique, anchor building, multi-pitch systems. Familiarize with the approach.
Early dinner at Redfish Lake Lodge. Gear packed and ready. Bed by 9PM.
Summit day — Elephant's Perch
3:30AM wake-up. 4AM headlamp start from Redfish Lake trailhead. Summit by 10–11AM.
Descend via 3-rappel descent and trail return. Back at trailhead by 3PM.
Celebration dinner at Redfish Lake Lodge. Idaho steelhead trout on the deck overlooking the lake.
Logistics
Book Sawtooth Mountain Guides well in advance — July and August fill up by March. Redfish Lake Lodge requires advance reservation. Stanley is 3 hours from Boise via ID-21 (scenic Ponderosa Pine Scenic Byway).
