City of Rocks Weekend — Crack Climbing Intro

The definitive Idaho climbing weekend for intermediate climbers. Two days at City of Rocks covering Elephant Rock on Day 1 (classic cracks) and Breadloaves on Day 2 (varied terrain). Camp on-site, wake up to coffee with views of the spires, and climb until the light fails.
Day-by-Day Plan
Elephant Rock — the iconic cracks
Arrive by 8AM. Set up camp at City of Rocks campground. Walk to Elephant Rock (5 min). Warm up on Wheat Thin (5.7) — 2–3 laps top-rope then lead.
Work up to Rye Crisp (5.8) and Strawberry Fields (5.10). Explore the northeast face. Take photos from the summit.
Camp dinner. Star gazing — City of Rocks is a designated dark sky preserve. Milky Way visible May–September.
Bumblie Wall + Breadloaves — sport day
Early start at Bumblie Wall. Warm up on Too Much Fun (5.8). Push to Bumblie Takes a Tumblie (5.11a) if feeling strong.
Walk to Breadloaves. Muffin Top (5.8) classic finish. Optional: Elephant Rock sunset lap on Wheat Thin for the golden hour.
Pack out. Drive to Twin Falls or Boise for a proper meal.
Logistics
Reserve City of Rocks campsite at recreation.gov — fills up fast on summer weekends. Nearest full services: Burley (45 min north). Almo Country Store (5 min) has snacks and basic supplies.
